This 8 days and 7 nights travel package includes the main attractive of the Atacama Desert and the Chilean Altiplano, joining the Antofagasta and the Tarapacá Regions by rural roads that introduces us to the indian world and its inhabitants.
DAY 01:
A.M.: Transfer from Airport El Loa Calama to Hotel in San Pedro de Atacama.
P.M.: Visit San Pedro's Church and the Archaeological Museum R.P. Gustave le Paige, with a complete collection of utensils belonging to the culture Likan-Antay.
Continuing with the Pukará of Quitor, fortress built around the XII century and scene of a bloody battle against the Spaniards in 1536. In this day we will have a revision of 12.000 years of history of San Pedro. Includes : fee tickets.
DAY 02:
In the morning, trip to the Atacama Saltflat. Departure at 09:00 o'clock, in the route will visit the village of Toconao, old town built with blocks of volcanic stone. We will visit the Church that has a beautiful tower and interesting religious imagery in the interior. We will also travel to the Jerez valley, a narrow place with parcels of cultivations. Then, we will descend toward the center of Atacama Saltflat, specifically to Chaxa Lagoon. Return to San Pedro for lunch.
In the afternoon, we will make a trip to the Valley of the Moon, considered an open book of geology. Impressive canyons of salt and majestic dunes will be the highlights of our walk, changing their coloration gradually, until being crowned by the sunset. Includes : fee tickets.
DAY 03:
This day we will witness one of the most impressive natural phenomena in the highlands: Tatio Geysers, where we will have breakfast in front of the impressive fumes, more than 10 meters high and the most fearless will be able to take a bath in the natural pool.
We will descend from the highland toward the village of Caspana, beautiful establishment with cultivation terraces surrounded by an imposing canyon.
We will continue to Chiu-Chiu, oasis from the time of the Spanish arrival, with one of oldest churches in Chile. At the end, we will visit the Pukará of Lasana, fortress of the atacameña culture, from the XII century, with an impressive architecture, over the Loa river cliffs. Arrive to Calama.
Optional: Tatio - Thermal baths of Puritama lodging in San Pedro.
DAY 04:
Full day trip from crossing the Atacama Desert. We will descend from the plateau, going by geogliphs, following the route of the caravans of the highland, lunch in Victoria. Continuing through the desert till Pintados Geogliphs, transfer to Pica Visit to Cocha o Resbaladero springs. Lunch in a tipycal restaurant. Lodging in Pica. Dinner.
DAY 05:
08:00 a.m. Depart to the Iquique, visiting a little town called Matilla and La Tirana. After, we will visit the ghost towns of Santa Laura and Humberstone, places of great historical importance that show the way of life during time of the nitrate. We continue towards the Giant of Atacama, the biggest anthropomorphic figure in the world with 86 meters. Arrive to Colchane town located to 212 kms from Iquique. Dinner and lodging.
DAY 06:
Trip through the altiplano visiting the villages of Isluga and Enquelga, Aymara settlements Aymara of ancient traditions. Surire saltflat with a great quantity of andean flamingoes. Lauca National park, visit to Lago Chungará, the highest in the world 4500 o.s.l. Cota-Cotani look out point, beautiful lagoons inside the green bofedal. Village and Lagoon of Parinacota, residence of llamas, alpacas and a beautiful church. Lodging in Putre. Dinner and lodging.
DAY 07:
Return to Arica Hotel visiting several Mountain Towns in the way.
Optional: direct trip Putre-Arica.
DAY 08:
A.m. Transfer Hotel to Airport of Chacalluta.
Optional: If the flight is in the afternoon, we will offer and optional visit to the Museo de Azapa.
